Alpha zinc ques..

Neighbor has a Merc Alpha 1 O/D, and bought a new zinc for under the stainless braided trim oil line block. Came with a gasket and a plug. Just what the hell is that plug for? I see where it goes, but I don't know the reason or even why its there. I only know V/P outdrives, so I believe I'm going to learn something here real soon, so thanks in advance! Rob

That sounds like part of the MerCathode anticorrosion system. It connects to a module that uses a tiny bit of current to counteract galvanic corrosion.
