Hello! I just purchased a 1993 Bayliner Classic with 1998 Mercruiser 3.0 and Alpha One Gen2 stern drive. I have no experience with this I/O and from what I'm reading in the manuals I've found online there is supposed to be an oil reservoir located in the engine compartment for the stern drive lubrication. Is this the case on all A1 G2 stern drives? I see no location where one might've been installed (witness marks). Any insight / guidance is much appreciated.

Thank you for the quick response. I've since found in A1 G2 service manual #14, page 1B-12 regarding lube oil change, this heading: "Models with drive unit Gear Lube Monitor, only:". So it seems there are units out there with no reservoir and mine appears to be one. I'll follow the details I found in that manual. Thanks again!

Though rare, there are some (mostly 3.0 models) that had the gear lube oil reservoir as an option and sometimes it seemed dependent on boat model too when say ordered from new.
If I recall correctly, sometimes having the three serial numbers from Mercruiser might distinguish if it didn’t come with it from new.

Some early ones did not have a lube bottle.
