alpha1 vs bravo

can anybody tell me the differene between the mercruiser alpha 1 outdrive and the bravo outdrive? we are buying a boat and we need too know the differences and the similarities between them, and any pros and cons about them, im new to this here site, thank you very much guys!

Generally an alpha drive is not as strong as a Bravo drive. But an Alpha will take an engine up through a 350. If you go with a big block, most would recommend a Bravo drive.<br /><br />If you do a search you will see this discussed here on several posts.<br /><br />Here is a web site to see the differences of the drives: drive identification

If you have a choice, go Bravo. Especially for heavier boats.
