After looking at wiring diagram looking at Purple Wire #5 possibly it can tie into it?

The voltmeter does connect to the purple wire but it would connect to it at the helm, not at the motor.

Each gauge will be daisy chained to the purple coming from the key switch

I bought a 2008 Chaparral 180 ssi in April of this year and the voltmeter didn’t work on it. After checking all the wiring I had power to gauge on the purple wire, the blue wire is for the lights, and mine has a yellow for the ground. All that wiring was good so I bought a new Faria gauge, exactly like stock off of eBay. That one didn’t work either so I called Faria and they told me I have 2 bad gauges (original one in the boat and the one I bought). They could fix them for around $90 each. I decided to have a custom made digital gauge made by AutoMeter, it’s not an exact match but it’s very close. If it didn’t say AutoMeter on it you wouldn’t know it wasn’t stock.

I posted all that to say maybe you have a bad gauge, if it’s a Faria gauge like mine, apparently they have had a few issues with the voltmeter gauge over the years.

My biggest problem is I do not think I hooked up alt correctly I had a brown/black wire coming from old harness that also went to the risers and then went to back of motor it was connected to the P connector on the alt I am trying to find out where that connected or maybe need to look alt again

Maybe I am getting to caught up in the color of the wires I do not have a Green nor Orange wire coming off the alt. I now have a 5.7 Votex motor in the boat now so maybe I need to run a Purple wire to the electric choke and need a ground of course

Maybe you don't have a GL-E
Don't know, but the wire hanging in the other pic looks like the water temp if its Tan

Maybe you're right that tan wire is water temp wire I need to ground the alt to the frame and try and take 4 cluster gauge a part to see if wire is loose
