I recently got a 1985 Mark Twain V-Sonic 210 SF cuddy cabin. It came equipped with an Volvo-Penta AQ140A with a Volvo-Penta 280 outdrive. Apparently the former owner at some point had carb trouble and decided to remove the original dual Solex 44PHN-3 carbs and replaced them with a homemade 3in metal box bolted onto the original manifold and dropped a single barrel car carb on it. Long story short--I can't find the carbs I need so I want to know what I can replace the original setup with. Can I switch to downdraft manifold with dual carbs or a downdraft manifold with a dual barrel carb setup? If so, which ones would fit without raising the height of the carbs above the original installed Solex carbs height? I have to watch the height due to not having a lot of space between the intake manifold and the motor cover--9" of space is as tall as I can go. I have my eye on a dual manifold/carb setup for a AQ145-AQ151 and another set off a AQ130A.
