Alternatives to Antifoul

Hello all, my first post here although have been pursuing posts in the background for a while.

My boat used to be kept in the water during summer so has been treated with antifoul although for the last 3 years has been untouched on a trailer. Anyway, the antifoul is now in a poor state and needs attention. Ideally, I rather not have any as I'm no longer keeping it in the water but am guessing that when the current antifoul is removed, the hull will be damaged as a result and need some form of paint?

I was thinking of removing it with Strippit and someone mentioned painting with boot top paint. Would this be sufficient? Are there any other options available to me?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Andy.

The reason I want something else other than antifoul is for aesthetic reasons.

It will be a mess to strip the old A-F paint off. I used stripper, sanding, heat gun and combos of each. Once you get it off, you can paint with most any marine urethane.

Did you ever think of having it sand blasted (usually the media is soft like bicarbonate of soda)? That should give it a soft matte finish, which you may like.

Thanks for the reply. I was trying to keep costs down which is why I was keen to do it myself. The boat already needs a few pounds spending on it as I've left it for so long!
