Alternator Belt Change

I have a 1994 four winns omc 3.0 115 hp which just blew an alternator belt. We just purchased the boat, it's our first. I am hoping to replace the belt myself, but after I took a look at the engine I realized it doesn't just slip onto the pulleys easily, but it looks like I have to remove a bracket (?mount bracket?) in front, then remove the power steering belt too before I can slip the belt on. I read something on another posting about some spacers that slip out so you can slide the belt in there...is anybody familiar with this engine...does it have those spacers? I hope this can be done in the water.
Thank you!

Hi 44 bullock,

I'm not familiar with your setup but I have seen plenty of mounts/brackets that have to be removed to replace belts.

Remove offending bracket, replace belt plus add a second belt for future replacement, cable tie it out of the way. Next time - you won't need to remove bracket.

I don't know about the spacer trick.

Aldo

I agree with dunaruna. You have to lossen the bracket to get new belt on but as he said put on a spare at the same time.

44 Looking at your engine, and the front mount.TWO 5/8 head bolts just to the left of the alternator.Remove them, and a section of the mount ...that these bolts go thru...can be removed. Now you can replace the belt.

DHP

Not to highjack this thread, but when the mount is removed does the engine need to be supported on that side? Thanks.
