Alternator belt length?

I have an '88 Celebrity with a Mercruiser Alpha One. I found the alternator belt broken last night. Can anyone tell me the length of the belt? I need to get in there and brush the rust off the pulley and replace the belt-this obviously is a common problem since when we bought the bought there was a handful of broken belts in the glove compartment. Thanks in advance!

Since you have several belts, see if you can find a number on one of them. That usually helps find the right belt. Then you can go to a local auto parts store and get a belt. And yes you are right about the rust. Clean the pulleys well and your belt will last longer.

The belt that was tangled in the alternator does have numbers on it. I was more concerned since there was other belt packaging in the boat with different numbers of different lengths. I just don't want to make this job anymore difficult. Thanks for the response, Fishermark.
