Hoping someone can enlighten as to whether I have a potential problem brewing. I have noticed in just the past couple of times out, when idling, our battery(s) don't seem to be charging. Volt meter is low and hitting the trim button causes a precipitous drop in RPM and Volt metter. As soon as I hit about 1500 RPM's you can see the volt meter jump up to where it should be. It will then continue to charge while on plane or back to no wake speed. I have two batteries and it doesn't seem to matter which battery I have switched onto, same thing.
Really hoping this isn't an alternator issue....
Engine specs:
1997 Mercruiser 5.7l 2barrel V8, Alpha Drive
I am wondering perhaps if there is some corrosion in the contacts within the alternator and it just has to get spinning faster? Any insight would be especially appreciated!
