I am overhauling my 470's. checking for cam wear and seal damage. The cost of a new oil pan gasket is about $80. Has anyone tried using the silicon tube gasket stuff. Any thoughts on this?

I'm also changing the charging system on both.
One motor has power steering so I need a low mount bracket, I would prefer this for both engines. Does anyone have or know where I can get just the brackets at a reasonable price?
Ive seen some listed for $500 with alternator.
$350 seems a bit much for brackets?

Try this link for your 470 needs: Breezeworks 470 forums

I have a 1985 3.7 liter MCM 170 and there is alot of info about your engines on that site.

Walt: I just bought the Wagner DC-60 Alternator Conversion Kit ($379), prices for this exact kit ranged from $349 to $529, but eBasic Power has free shipping. They also sell the mounting bracket only, if you have all the other components ($130) and they sell a lot of 3.7L/224 CID stuff. Here's the link

http://ebasicpower.american-data.ne...CTGY&Store_Code=ebasicpower&Category_Code=MER

I was tempted to buy the new electonic version of the water cooled voltage regulator ($279) it's suppose to well out perform the old style one.

For a good variety of choices, if you don't already have all the 3.7L/224 CID alternator conversion sites, go to Google and search
"Mercruiser alternator Conversion'
