I was just wondering if the expert folks here know if there is a alternator in my 1997 120HP Mercury outboard? I've heard somewhere that if you have a electric starter then there is a alternator?????????? which sound kinda sketchy especially on a bass boat. Thanks!

Yes there is an alternator, it's built into the stator windings under the flywheel. It puts out AC current out of the 2 yellow wires coming from the stator - at least they are yellow on my old '86. This is converted to DC by the rectifier and kept at 14v by the regulator.

DasBoot> thanks, so if I wanna use an on-board charger I just have to hook it to the rectifier output? better yet, HOW IS THE ON-BOARD CHARGER CONNECT TO THIS?
