Hello, I just bought a 89 sea ray seville w/ 4.3 inboard engine. Previous owner started a engine swap and then I bought it before he finished it so im putting together a puzzle. My question is: there are an orange and red wire going to the back of the alternator, there is a black wire too but is not connected to anything. Where does the black wire connect to? Where can i get a manual for this boat or wiring system? Thanks guys

Re: alternator wire..?

Black should be alternator ground, look for a screw on the alternator and it should go there. It will be a single out of place screw, sometimes on the buttom or back. Folks don't believe they should hook that up since the alternator should be grounded from its mountings but I hook them up anyway...

Re: alternator wire..?

Jones will have a bit of investigating to do, as the red/orange wire he described being on his alternator is not on the one in your wiring diagram.....
