Alternator under flywheel...rectifier/voltage regulator is a black retangular box back side of engine near the flywheel.

Re: Alternator ????

The alternator is not a separate belt driven device like on a car or truck. Magnets in the flywheel spin past a series of coils (called a stator) Which generates AC voltage. The rectifier converts the AC voltage to DC. The regulator keeps the DC voltage at manageable levels for charging the battery and running accessories.

Re: Alternator ????

Thanks to you all for the information, sounds like it is the same as my old 2 stroke motorcycles.
Much appreciated.
Paul.

Yup -- Pretty much the same on any small engine.
