Noticed when 1st starting the engine this year it took a while for the voltage to increase to >13V on the dash gauge.......more than the usual 1000RPM's........once it did it seemed fine though.

Today I noticed again while out on the water.......is this an indication of a potential problem??

Re: Alternator

Start removing and cleaning all the wiring connection points, yeah I know it's a pain but something may have corroded over the winter

Re: Alternator

Many alternators require an rpm of 1500-2000 to 'kick in'. Once it does you can drop the rpms to idle and it will have the proper voltage.

Re: Alternator

Seemed like the voltage was dropping at idle even after going up after reaching the required RPM's.

Re: Alternator

I actually have a DVM on the boat and did measure the voltage when the dash gauge was high.......the voltage was ~14.5V.
