I need to change the alternator on my 1978 Cobalt with a Mercruiser 260. Is that a marine alternator or a standard automotive one.

Re: Alternator

You always use a marine alternator in a boat.
They are ignition protected, which simply means is something goes wrong and you end up with gas fumes in your bilge, the alternator will not ignite them and blow the back of your boat off.

Re: Alternator

It's sometimes less expensive to have the alternator rebuilt.
