Aluminum corrosion on lower

This is my 1982 Johnson 75 lower. Is it necessary to completely grind out the corrosion pits, or can I just clean it really good and fair it with JB Weld?
And, anyone know if those intake screens are available as a part, or do I have to make something up?
Thanks, Bill

If you can get all the corrosion out of those pitted areas and then use a quality filler made for such metal, and then zinc chromate primer followed with a good sandable primer. You would have a flawless surface to spray most any quality type paint and make it look like new again. And that could be a single coat finish or even a base coat clear coat finish. Not a real problem to do... Take a loo at my engine rebuild link below to see how I did such an engine myself... :thumb:

Looks like salt water corrosion. There should be a sacrificial zinc "slug" of some sort somewhere on that lower end and I bet its corroded to nothing.

The intake screen should be available. contact any decent boat dealer.
