my fathers got a 1990 bass tracker , this year he almost sank due to finding 2 cracks in the hull, hes the original owner and would like to keep the boat, so ive got questions on welding,, the aluminum looks to be 1/8 inch or 3/16,,,, the guy he had to repair it said it cant be welded!?,, i call bs,, just wondering if anyone has some input and why the guy would resort to epoxy if he claims a weld wont hold, the guy wants to strip the boat and flip it upside down in order to weld,, ,, just any knowledge would be helpful as i can and have welded aluminum, the effected areas don't seem to bad,,thanks in advance

because who ever your father talked to isnt a welder

find a real welder

the bass trackers were 0.090' aluminum back in the 80's and 90's and were welded construction

only reason it couldn't be immediately welded is if there is something flammable on the other side of the crack. if that is the case, remove the flammable material prior to welding.

thats how i felt when he said he wouldn't do it or it wouldn't hold, the guy supposedly welds aluminum everyday, so how about some confidence in those "skills" ,, thanks for the input, ,and ye the only thing would be to remove some of the foam behind the crack, which is no big deal, thanks again,, time to sort this mess out
