aluminum fuel tank 12 years old

My tank and boat is 12 years old. When should fuel tanks be changed regardless if they are giving trouble or not? Any thoughts appreciated

Just give it a thorough inspection. If it looks godd, it probably is.

Bonitoman<br />Do not know but my 1980 Crestliner aluminum fuel tank is 23 years old and looks brand new.

If it's under the deck and stays wet all the time, keep a very close eye on it. This is particularly true if used in salt water. Problems will vary from boat to boat depending on how the manufacturer allowed for water to drain out from under the deck. I participated in a Coast Guard survey a few years back on this subject and the results showed a high rate of leakage in under-deck aluminum tanks after a few years.
