Would like to know after drilling out rivets,to oen up transom and replace rotten wood smething like starboard, what is best way to resealit, rivetes or to have it welded on my 1984 starcraft
I am confused - Are you saying that the wood part of the transom is rivited to the alumnium?? Never seen that.

It would help if you told us how big the boat is & what motor you have on it.

I replaced the wood on my 13' skiff (9.9 hp) by putting a piece of 3/4" plywood on the inside and another on the outside and bolting them together through the alumnium with SS bolts.
I'm assuming you ar talking about the alluminum cap that goes over the top of the transom. I would apply a good water resistant adhesive to the cap then just rivet it back in place. Finish of with a good silicone caulk.on the edges.
