Just currious to which tank everyone prefers. I'm getting ready to lay down a new floor in my center console and want to replace the tank before hand. I have a Moeller plastic tank 45gal in there, new from 1993, and it just seems to be very britle. Though the reviews I have been reading all lean on the side of these plastic tanks. The tank will below the deck with no way of getting it out with out removing the deck, so I just want to put a new one in once, and yes I do plan on keeping the boat for a long while. Will an aluminum tank outlast these plastic tanks. I want to puting which ever one is more durable. Thanks for any replies.

Re: Aluminum or Plastic Fuel Tank?

The rotomolded plastic Moeller tank will last virtually forever. Aluminum tends to corrode and springs pin hole leaks. Especially when water in a tank is a very real problem. I read an article that showed the single largest cause of water in tanks is marina contaminated fuel. If you don't have aluminum, do yourself a favor and stay with the plastic.
