I have a friend who has an aluminum fishing boat with a leaking problem. He told me that it's leaking around some of the rivets. I don't know anything about aluminum boats, but I told him to just put silicone caulk on them, and I would ask about it here. Does he need to replace the rivets. And, if so, does he need to caulk around the new rivets, or along any seams?

Garwood,

If the rivets are visibly loose, you'll have to tighten them by using a hammer and a block on the other side. Once tightened, seal all the rivets with a product called Gluv It. Apply the Gluv It to the inside.

Gluv It is avialble at: www.westmarine.com
