Aluminum rowboat bow casting is broken

Greetings all,

I've got a 11 foot aluminum boat that is in pretty good shape except for the casting that is located on bow up at the gunwales. The boat has no identification so I cannot identify and/or contact the manufacturer.

All that being said, the casting the covers the gunwales at the bow is broken and partly missing. Is there a name for this part? Any thoughts how to find something to replace it and/or fabricate something in a home shop?

Thanks for your thoughts.

Welcome Heimtun,

You should post some pictures of the boat and damage. Someone might be able to tell you what kind of boat it is and the manufacturer. They may also be able to point you in the right direction for the part you need. You should be able to fabricate something that will work if you can't find a replacement. I believe the part is called a bow cap. It covers the nose and the end of the rubrails and gunwales.

Wayne, good pics, still hard to tell who mfg'd it. Option would be to find someone to make and weld patch piece. Most likely expensive and hard to do unless you have the piece.

I have had luck looking at salvage yards, or alum recycling. Haven't looked for bow caps but I have found transom caps and other hardware. Maybe find something that is close enough to be able to get the right fit.

Good luck

I see those pop up on E-Bay from time to time- But that is a pretty simple looking one. You could probably have something suitable fabricated at a local shop pretty inexpensively, or could get that one welded up...

More info on my boat. I found the HIN - oddly, it is only 11 characters. GF72F 238OYI Photo attached.

Thoughts anyone?

I just got off the phone with Crestliner's old boat "expert" - she tells me that this serial number was not one of theirs.

So I'm back to square-one in my quest to identify my boat.

Thanks to all for your input.
