Question for the propeller experts: Is there any practical differences between Aluminum and Bronze props? I have both available for my Merc. Mark 55E and I thought that perhaps because there is such a large weight difference between the two, it would effect operating parameters.

John,

There would be very little performance difference, assuming both are of the same size and pitch.

I'm not a fan of bronze, especially if the boat is left in the water for any period of time. Bronze sets up galvanic action very quickly.

Re: Aluminum vs. Bronze props

I have two props, both the same except for the metal. I figured that perhaps the bronze would provide somewhat of a flywheel effect due to it's mass, and that due to it's lack of mass, the aluminum prop might be faster to respond?????

John,

Your assumptions are on track. The bronze will also experience less blade flex.

Unless you have a real hot set up, I doubt you or I would ever notice the difference.
