Which do I need to get good reception on the water. A good radio or should invest in a fiberglass antenna?

If the boat is fiberglass, you can use a piece of wire as an antenna. Strip one end and stick it in the antenna hole of the radio, and toss it in the bilge or staple it under the dash. it will work just great.
