Am I missing an adjustment somewhere? FD-20c

I'm currently working on a '66 J20, FD-20c and it's running pretty well (in a tank). But my question is, is there an adjustment for the throttle friction? As it starts great in the start position but then slowly backs off and the throttle turns backwards until it stalls out in 20-30 seconds or so. Is there an adjustment to tighten it up and hold it in position that I don't know about? I don't want to pull the flywheel and work on the plate if that is the answer! I have also replaced the tiller with one off an old 18hp if that makes any diff but I don't think it would. Comments? thanks.

steve, i actually think the are designed that way, so if you let go, fall out, that it will die, rather than run in circles. your hand needs to stay on the tiller.

There is a spring and tapered friction plug in the twist grip to make it stay put. The friction plug normally is removed when using remote controls, so it might not be in there.

The other possibility is coils dragging on the flywheel magnets.

None of my other engines do it though.

I have seen springs in others I have worked on but there was none in this one. Maybe that's it. I'll go check a parts manual to see what's missing in there.
