If your are interested in having fun behind the wheel or watching others do some pretty impressive driving, look up your local SCCA region and check out some of the Solo events. Autocrossing (Solo II) is very popular throughout the country. What the video depicts has many similarities to what an autocross is. It is a bit over the top, but it is a great demonstration of talent.

I have been dodging cones since 2002 or so. I have a dedicated Mazda RX-7 that I use for it. I could just as easily use my daily driver. However, as with any activity the more you spend the more competitive you are. Tires are where the real recurring cost is. In this picture I am running on a little over $800 worth of tires and they are tiny compared to most cars. Normal cars probably have at least $1000 per set of tires. If I was running a full season I would probably go through at least two sets.

Very good vid (have seen it before). Makes me feel good owning a Forester, based on a world class, championship winning rally car

530hp+all wheel drive= a heck of a lot of fun!!

I got to drive a drift competition in a Viper and had a blast.
It did not handle as near as well as that Subaru!...that was cool!

We had Michelin as a sponsor with a whole truck load of tires..Man it was fun smoking them down to the threads at over 200 bucks per tire...:D

I'm thinking all that HP comes from that yellow tube paint.:)

I see alot of that around here. Basically, lawnmowers with really tricked out tubes/pipes painted bright colors.

If you ever want to deflate a "tuner" just ask him where the mower deck attaches.;):D

Re: Amazing driving skill

I just have to brag...... my little toyota can spin around like that too ........

I just don't have that control............ and it makes the ice fisherman mad when you play on the ice :D

The only yellow you would see under my hood is the dipstick loop (which is worth 11 hp for being yellow) and maybe some mouse urine from when I lose it on ice!:p

Re: Amazing driving skill

He might be good doing that for show, but going against the clock around the cones is another thing. Sliding means time on the clock, can't win that way.

Years ago when the SCCA had the Chimney Rock Hillclimb in North Carolina, that was one of our major events to go to. 13 hairpin turns up the side of a mountain on a skinny road for a tad less than 2 miles. Very few have made that trip in less than 2 minuets. Many went off the mountain trying :D Would like to see Ken take his Suber up there one time :D

After the hillclimb was permanently canceled, I took up boating :D I find it to be less expensive without competition.........SS
