I just recently bought a new boat with a 60 hp yamaha on it.
I changed the lower unit oil and it only seems to take about half a quart to fill it up.

When I try and squirt it into the top hole it pressurizes and spits back out. I got about half a quart in there. Is that all it takes?

Gee, I remember trying that once! OK you will find two screws on the lower unit. The bottom drain hole is also the fill hole. You want to take both screws out. Insert the tip of the bottle tightly into the bottom hole. Keep squeezing untill the oil comes out the top hole. Put in top screw first, then bottom screw. Hold finger, thumb over bottom screw hole untill you can get that screw lined up to go in. Good luck! :)

Let a little bit leak out of the bottom hole after it comes out the top hole. This allows for expansion.

Thank you. I knew something wasn't right. That worked a lot better. It still gets oil all over the place though.

So all the top hole is for is a vent and to see when its full.

Yeah...it's messy. I use my oil drain pan for catching car oil under the motor to catch most of it, but it won't get it all. Good job!

Drain it into an open pan so you can examine it and see if any h20 seeped in.
If it did your seals are going.
