trying to size battery cable wire....

1997 Evinrude 90 hp Ocean Pro

I need to know how much amperage the starter might need to turn over this v4 when it is really cold out....

thanks

most affordable way i found was to go get a CHEAP set of car jump cables from harborfreight or walmart, chop off the connectors, get a 3$ set of clamp on terminals on it and you are done. Just make sure you clamp the new terminals well and protect them with something.
for ma the total cost was about $20.
Hope this helps.

You would want the 4-gauge cables.

Re: amperage draw from an Evinrude 90 hp??

thanks for the replies. but this is a duck hunting boat, and it will be used mostly in salt water on cold cold days....I want the protection of tinned wire, and I want to go big enough to give me the best chance of ALWAYS cranking over this big V4.

I read someplace that a guys 90 hp nissan drew 151 amps trying to turn over the starter.

and then elsewhere I saw a chart on wire sizing. and it was saying at 12-15 feet 100-150 amps would need 2/0 wire

but that doesnt really tell me what an EVINRUDE 90 hp draws

I found a place that sell marine battery cable cheap from Anchor .

they sell it in 10 foot and 25 foot rolls
Id buy a 25 foot roll in red cut in half and shrink wrap black tubing on the last 3 feet of the cable used for the negative lead..

that would be the best deal price wise for me, once I figure what size i need
