I ordered a product catalog from AMSOIL, I am considering running it in my motorcycle.

First.... opinions on their product (yes I've read lots about it on this forum)

Second.... what was this "AMSOIL Multi-Level Marketing Program" the brochure was referring to? No one in my town is a dealer, so I might need to buy from them direct... but it appears they want me to be a dealer or personal use account and then someone makes a commission off of me like a true MLM?

Thanks for the help.

What do you want to know? It's a great oil. Like any other, nobody has any proof how great it is, nor do the people that don't like it have any good reason for their opinion. The only thing you can do is try it and see how you like it.

Most people agree their marketing system is complete and total crap, if you can't buy it locally then buy it directly from amsoil.com. If you become a dealer you'll get it cheaper, but you also have to pay them ~$35 a year, so you need to buy quite alot to save any money. Things like 35,000 mile oil changes and 100:1 2 cycle oil they advertise are pretty stupid, but if you use their oils like any other you will have great results.

Amsoil was probably THE pioneer in automotive synthetic oil products. Across the board they are all very good products. They also have a wider range of synthetic products than other synthetic oil brands.

Why they went with MLM and stayed with it once Synthetics gained wider public acceptance, I do not know. I have used their products since the mid 70's and have been extremely happy with them.

In recent times they have made it easier to obtain the product, at discount, without having to become a selling dealer.

Thx for the info. Needed to know that.

Was curious what makes them so different to charge $8 a quart, but the MLM is part of that problem.

Bought my KLR650, guy was running Mobil 1 synthetic, and he was mixing half-and-half 10w-40 and 20w-50.... how weird is that? Anyway, I need to decide what I'm going to do and thought I'd ask the experts

You can order directly as a first time "preferred customer" for a 6 month trial period. This will cost you $10 which will also enable you to recognize a 10 to 20 percent discount off their list price. If you order a case or better, the discount recognized with your first order is usually above and beyond the $10 cost.

I usually put an order in during the fall and then again in the spring. I started using the Marine synthetic in my Yammie 150 Four Stroke this year and have been using the Diesel Synthetic in my truck for about 3 years with good results.

The only thing I can add is that if you have to buy it at the regular over the counter price, I dont see the advantage other than better protection, but at a price. Now I have been with Amsoil for a long time and think most of there products are great. [Its very hard to compare], as many of there products are not certified, so some feel they cant be compared farely. I think that there motorcycle oil cant be beat by any other oil on the market.
