Amzoil

Just bought a tinny with a 1991 30hp Mariner for the younger ones to learn boating and fish with their friends.
We are going to use Amzoil as I like its low smoke/smell.
On the label it states good for all kinds of 2 strokes even Etec.

How can they make this claim?
Did they study x100 and match it?
Is it just a synthetic and therefore ok to use?

Our main fishing boat has a Etec and we will continue to use XD100.
Does anyone use or know if Amzoil is really OK to use in a Etec?

Ahh, another oil thread to eventually be locked !
I'll start it out. Amzoil is a very good full synthetic oil that many people swear by.
BUT
Would I take a new $20,000 ETEC, program it for X100 usage, and run it on Amzoil?
Not on your life. Maybe if I kept it on X50 programming......

They can claim anything that they want...

The question you have to ask is, what if something blows up, how good is their warranty,,, to cover damage caused by their claims. In my case, their warranty stunk and I had to eat a $2500 transmission that I ran well over the MFG's service interval,,, because of they said it was perfectly fine for their product. Well it wasn't and they wouldn't backup their warranty.

As you can tell, I'm not a supporter of "that" product...

Any outboard oil certified TC-W3 will do fine in your Mariner.

Synthetics do smoke and pollute less at much higher cost.

It was also my thinking that if I used Amzoil in my Etec to save a few bucks and had an oil related problem would they stand behind their claims.

I will take Fishrdan point that they can say what they want and the risk is ours.

This is sad because many will use it and MAYBE they will be ok.
Have too much $ and expectation tied to my love of boating to try and save a few on MAYBE.
