I have an idea for you admin5 as this board is arguably the #1 board on the internet and in my opinion the best one would you be willing to entertain the idea of some form of real time chat in addition to the bb. I know you run this bb for free and at signigant cost to yourself, believe me we ALL thank you for it. what do you think? anyone have any suggestions or am I in left field with this

miloman, don't know about here, but I can set-up a chat room on starchat and it don't cost anything.

A very valid idea miloman! I have debated this issue for years now (not kidding). I think we can do it without much expense so that is not the problem. In fact when we first went live with iboats we had a chat room.<br /><br />I have only 2 real concerns.<br /><br />1. I am concerned that information that is shared within the chat room will be lost to future readers and will only benefit the participants of the moment.<br /><br />2. This is a very big concern: We don't want Spinner_bait Nut and Mellowyellow striking up a virtual romance and leaving their wives. I am soooo kidding. Being serious, I am concerned about having to police the chat so that trolls and ped0phile weirdos don't stink the place up.<br /><br />I don't want to encourage you guys too much but what do you think of the idea of us having a chat room that is only open for a set 2 hours at the same time every day? That might be manageable? If we do this, you guys are going to all have to buy something from us so we can pay for it.

This would be a wonderful addition/(addiction)<br />As for admin 5 concerns very valid as the ability to look up and revisit past and ongoing isues is invaluable.<br /><br />The chat would have to be considered friviouls or it gets posted on the forum.<br /><br />Would it be possiable to do this independent of iboats so as interested partys could attend (simotaniously in seperate window)<br /><br />It seems to me that msn has an area that members can create there own chat rooms for free and i think that you do not have to be a member of msn to join discusions. this is not to say that msn is the choice but maybe a simular option would be available.<br /><br />Also to help patrol for unwanted riprap perhaps if it was an undiscloused address we could do it as an invitation or admitance by review of past expierences on forum to help eliminate problems.<br /><br />example; you prove yourself sincere here one of several people could forward adress and or pasword to you.<br /><br />This would require some oversight to do but in long run it would be minimal.<br /><br /> This would be wonderful lets hope its a go.

really great in theory, but Iboats would still be<br />attatched and ultimately responsible for the chat<br />room. we can all download MSN or Yahoo instant<br />messanger and chat all day if we want. really<br />don't need Iboats to "enable" us. that way you<br />could personally chose who you wanted to chat<br />with and could ignore undesirables.<br />if'n I owned Iboats, I'd be scared too.<br />frivilous behavior = frivilous lawsuits!<br />sad but true <br />my .02,<br />M.Y.

I have got a chat room set-up on starchat right now if anyone is interested, that is if Admin5 does not want to have one here.<br /><br />BTW, MY, when will you be available for chat. <br /><br />Admin5, how about you big guy.

Jeez mello yellow, you try to scare admin5 i think its workin. I see your point though.<br /><br />Surley there would not be any more liability than the forum presents would it?<br /><br />Another possability would be integrate it with Forum and after 50 or100 (etc) posts someone could pull up your profile and review your posts if all looks well you would get a password... misbehave and acess denied.<br /><br />It is my observation that the masses only stick with the forum beyond a few questions or answers<br />please note under above scenerio i would not qualify (to few post)but i intend to stick around and the chat room is something i would be willing to wait for the privlage to join.

yo SBN... start a new thread bud so as to<br />dis-associate Iboats. then Admin5 can even post<br />warning all members that they are not monitoring<br />or responsible for the chat room and proceed at<br />yur own risk! would at least cover their backsides.<br />Admin5, add a disclaimer here also. <br />dang... need a lawyer to know fer sure.

look like I struck a chord with this idea ey boys. I like the by invitation only and we could have a senior member grant admitance policing it would be easy as we can tune out the dead beats ( hope that dont apply to me ) lovin this idea
