Anchor for sand bottom of lake

I searched and didn't find what I needed to know about this situation. I hope someone knows. <br /> Well, the title is self explanatory-<br /> Been in a wind storm on a lake with a sandy bottom. We have river anchor. Not the one because it keeps sliding/moving. So, before I go shopping, what do I need? <br />Any advice would be great!<br />Bassy

Walmart has a good one for $18.00 which is similer to a mushroom one except bigger with three legs, covered with black plastic coating.

I use a small dunsforth (sp) works great on my 17' in the river or the gulf

you didn,t mention what kind of boat you have or what size. in any case, get the proper size anchor for your boat.... I use a danforth on a 27ft sail boat on sandy bottom and it works great.. remember to use a 7 to 1 scope. (7 feet of line for every foot deep) if windy or fast current... and haveing 5 or 6 feet of chain on the anchor helps a lot

I have a 20' pontoon boat, and routinely take it out in strong wind. I too have the three legged mushroom anchor, and it works so good that sometimes it's hard to pull up! I still use the small one to help check the swing of the boat, but I've used it in muddy and sandy bottoms with much success. Just make sure your kids don't mess with the knot before you throw it overboard...<br /><br />I've lost two of them that way.

Depends on the boat size and type. Danforth anchors are great in the sand, there are others that work very well. 7-1 scope and a sufficient rode is vital to performance.

We have a 12 ft. aluminum boat.

Bassy, this aught to get some laughs, but I have lifted weights for a long time. When I purchased my boat, in a hurry, I grabbed a 25 lbs Olympic Weight (With the large hole in the center). When I need to anchor, I have ropes with an Eye braided on each end, with a Strong clip, I pass the rope through the hole in the Weight, then clip back to the rope, and throw it overboard, till it settles, then tie off. So far it has worked great. It is flat and does not take up space, does not get hung up on everything in the boat or in the water, and I keep it in the bow of the boat to help distribute boat weight. Its also less expensive per pound than store anchors. And there are many different weight options to choose from. Laugh if ya want, it works for me!<br /><br />GodsBeast
