Another alignment question...

Ok, so have read many alignment threads and know the alignment bar is supposed to slide in very easy... When winterizing, I adjusted the front motor mounts to get the alignment bar to slide in as easy as possible. When putting the outdrive back on, it would go in past the gimbel bearing, but wouldn't go in all the way... After some giggling of the outdrive, it mated up and slid in. What does this mean? Were the splines not aligned or do I need to play with the rear motor mounts? How often or when do you need to adjust the rear mounts?

Thanks!

A lot depends on how far the drive went on before you had to start giggling to get it on. If you was lacking about an inch, then I would bet it's the orings on the shaft. They need a bit more pressure than just the drive. Too much grease in the coupler can also give you a hydrolock and prevent the shaft from going all the way in till you get the grease squeeze out around the shaft.

There isn't any adjustment on the rear motor mounts. You can replace the rear motor mount bushings but there isn't any adjustment regardless. Just another reminder also - check that the rear engine mount hardware is installed correctly.

It was the last inch or so where it got stuck... I just wanted to make sure I was adjusting all the things that needed to be adjusted. Also, thanks for the pic and info on the rear mount.

Hope for an early Spring!
