Just put a new Mercruiser 260 in my Cobalt. newer inner plate and gimbal ring the entire works. I've got the front mounts about as far up as I can go and the alignment tool goes in with a little bit of a push and when I pull it out on the end of the tool I see good even spline marks in the grease all the way around for about a inch down then the spline marks are heavy on the bottom and bare on the top of the tool. I cant seem to figure out wich way to go here now.

Do you have the correct hardware under the rear motor mounts? Did you by any chance install the new style Mercruiser rear mounts and use the old hardware?

If everything is OK with the mounts, then you need to come up with the front of the motor some more.
Make yourself some spacers for under the mounts if you need to go higher.

Just about ran out of threads but the tool slides in fairly easy and the spline marks are all about the same all the way around. Thanks for talking this threw.
