another electronic conversion question?

I think I'm starting to get a handle on what is required to convert to electronic ignition, but still have a couple of questions. 88' 5.0 cobra. Do I need to replace the purple/red resistor wire that runs from the + side of the coil to the alternator? If so what is used? I have the upgraded ESA (# 987738). This is the module that eliminates the overstroke switch and has the timer built in. Would this be compatible with the conversion or do I still need the diode & resistor fix. Thanks to all for all the great help!

That depends on what kind of system you are trying to convert it to.

Was thinking of the petronix II. Seems to be very popular and, inexpensive?
