Another Farce trim question

I just got a FREE 1992 19' Maxum ski boat with the Farce 120 outboard...I have experience with this boat as it came with the house I rented and I had it working flawlessly 1 1/2 yrs. ago. I got it back and the trim/tilt worked fine but after a dozen cycles or so the trim/tilt would only work in one direction.
I found some small plastic pieces in the pump itself, removed them and it will only down now...i've cleaned, flushed, replaced fluids, etc. and it still only goes down. Any suggestions on what to look for to make it function properly??? I can still get it to come up but only with my assistance.

if it only works in one direction then the first thing to check is relays. If the relays are okay then it is either the bypass valve in tilt ram or the valve body. My money would be on valve body but there are a bunch of different things that could cause that sympton. Did you change the set screw? that would be most likely suspect.

Ummm, where would I find this set screw you speak of? It still works, I just have to tug on the motor to get it up. At first it would only go up, after cleaning it out it will only go down. If I "pump" it by lifting the motor by hand the trim ram will start coming out but not on it's own otherwise. Like I said, it was working fine a week ago but not so much now and I found that debris in the pump. Could there still be something in the pump or valve body blocking the oil flow?

you can't miss it. It is just like automotive solid lifter valve adjustment with a locknut and a threaded post. If you don't see an adjustment post then your pump uses shims instead. Prestolites are really good about debris. It just doesn't much affect them. if the pump is good then a little soft debris doesn't stop them. Hard debris is threat to score your rams and should be avoided like plague.
