I picked up my new boat and motor (Merc 20) at the end of May but haven't been able to use it yet, it's in storage 150 miles away at a relative's house. The dealer gave it to me with a full tank of gas, I presume with the break-in 25:1 mix in it. I knew I wouldn't be able to use it until early July, so I put the recommended amount of stabilizer in the tank. I know this won't help what's in the carb, but will this amount of storage time (=about 5 1/2 weeks) be likely to give me a problem when I try to start it up on first use?

[It's real discipline (?) to have a brand new boat and motor sitting there and not be able to use it! Can't wait for vacation!!]

I think you'll be OK with that amount of time. I would double check with your dealer that the free tank 'o gas is the break in mix. I'm sure they know what they're doing, but it wouldn't hurt to ask!

It would take more than 6 mths in a hot climate to
have any effect on the quality of the fuel, as
long as it was not already contaminated.
