I've been looking for my first boat. my inlaws live on a small lake here in MI, and said we should buy a boat to keep at their place. We used a friends there one summer and had a blast, and it was an under powered POS boat. So now I've looked at a ton of boats trying to find one that is in our budget, but still not something I have to work on right away, I'm looking to get something that will get us through to fall.

1) In NADA, does this boat have a outboard power trim? I thought that was for outboards only, not I/O
2) 3.0 chevy with OMC outdrive? does that make sense?
3) Anything in this add that makes you think twice?
4) how much engine wiggle on the top side is to much? I know any movement at the mounts isn't good.

I know enough about engines to recognize when and engine isn't running it's best. This boat has been only in fresh water. He said he pulled the carpet because it was really thin, but the original floor was still solid so he put a marine oil based non slip paint on. He has the bow cover, and cockpit cover and the new front to back cover. 19' capri

okay, what's the secret that I dont know about? I've talked to several marinas around me and they recommended that I try to find a mercruiser, but that OMC wasn't bad either. and when I did some background reading on here, people don't seem to be having to many more issues with theirs as other brands of boat and outdrive.

Agreed - I'd steer clear of that one for a first boat: OMC is out of business. The Bayliner part doesn't bother me that much, but I'm thinking that one has had some work done on it.

For a first boat, have you considered something like THIS? You're on a small lake, it'll fulfill multiple roles, should be lower maintenance, looks like it was cared for, comes with TONS of stuff and has a good outboard on it.

OMC has been outta' business for quite a while and parts are starting to get hard to come by. Many marine mechanics have stopped working on OMCs altogether as well. Many guys out there keep 'em going (yours truly inclusive), but if you're just getting into it - Merc is just more abundant and easy.
