he boat is a 69 starcraft all aluminium
Ok im looking into picking up my first boat, and ive fallen in love with the older open bow starcrafts.Im looking for what a reasonable price for this boat would be. I also have a concern about the floor, I think it looks great right now but am worried about the longevity of it.

the motor is a 1994 oil injected 60 hp 2 stroke

outboard with electric tilt trim

it has a bombraider control with tilt trim control on it

i re built the motor 30 over bored everything in it brand new i put about 2 hours on new motor still has to brake in for about four more hours , runs perfect!

has a 55 pound motorguide trolling motor

seats are 1 year old, so is the bimini top

have two downriggers to go with it, and a fish finder

Hmmmmmm....

The boat looks in good, straight, original condition...

Engine sounds very promising....

New seats, trailer looks aok....

By your photos it appears you are in the SW somewhere...

I'm not particularly a fan of the new deck personally, but it would no doubt last a while for you simply because it's new...

So water ready SS? I dunno, maybe worth $2.5K - $3.5K range?

i love the look of the deck. what's it made of? given that the stringers run lengthwise, i'd also be concerned about how well supported the deck is. and if they just dropped it on top of old deck. not likely given that this would force em to raise the consoles on an SS.

Jas is probably right....he spends more time on CL than any of us. i'd tend to go toward the lower end of his range. fresh motor is a plus but it's arguably too small for an 18SS....hull is rated for twice that HP. it will be OK if you don't plan on any skiiing or tubing, but i'd use that as negotiating point.

I believe this one is only a 16ft, not an 18 if that makes any difference

I believe that it's a 16' SS (the longitudinal planks lengthen the appearance). looks to be in sound condition...I really dig that color! Consoles are in beautiful shape. Windshield looks original but with no center section.

agree; wood flooring could be installed on the old decking. The clue would be the bottom console flange; is it below the decking, above the decking and original or above the decking and modified. determine whether or not the transom is sound (does it flex when you push/pull on the outboard?); I wonder if the splashwell has been modified to hide stress cracks.

What is the seller asking? That info is important. If he listed it as "best offer".....then lowball him to get an idea of what he really wants for it.

I'd also ask him who did the rebuild. If it was him, I'd be asking how much experience he has working on outboards. Also ask him WHY he's selling a boat/motor that he just rebuilt.

he is asking 2900. i offered him $2k because he did the rebuild of the motor and the boat with no receipts to show, and he said no way on my offer...

Did you do a compression check on the motor?

In the end, it's just a matter of whether or not you feel that the boat is worth $2900. Another factor is the boat market in your area. Would $2900 bucks easily get you another boat in this type of condition etc?

How long has this boat for sale?

Re: Another " How much is this worth?" Thread

havent actually seen the boat, but a compression check will definitely be performed. As far as my area they are kinda rare but good deals are always to be found for example a 1995 lund with a 50 hp motor just sold for $3100 and it was in spectacular shape. The boat has been for sale for quite a while, I dont think he really wants to sell it that bad.

Personally I love the boat. Its set up exactly how i would do it, love the color, love the look of the deck but kinda worried about it, but I think its kinda over priced when compared to some of the deals ive seen come and go.

sounds like the boat is right for you. my experience has been that when i spend the time and $ to get exactly what i want on an item i'm going to be living with for at least 10 years, like a vehicle, i never regret doing so. maybe offer him 2500?

I'd pass at $2900 and might give it some consideration at $2500 I'd be about $2200.00 Tops but I would have a whole lot of checking and inspection to do first.

Including what kind of material is that floor that he put down.
Did he rebuild the transom.
Why did he do all of the work. (If he let it sit there and rot and left water saturated foam underneath than the floor won't last) If he removed the foam what did he replace it with.

Why did he rebuild the motor? I would look for signs of an obvious rebuild.

I think even the 16' SS is rated for 90 HP so I would want at least a 70 hp hanging on the back.

That being said if everything checks out $2500 would be my max.

I would go check it out before bothering anymore with the "What is this worth" stuff.

You may get there and see that it's a wondeful rig.....or you may immediately realize that the boat looks worse in person, and the motor runs rough.

Making an offer in person will go much farther with the seller...than a lowball offer by email etc.

Re: Another " How much is this worth?" Thread

to add to what Bonair said, the sight of a stack of 100s can be very persuasive.....making the sale demonstrably a "bird in the hand". it's a lot harder for them to say no when they realize they could have a bunch of cash in hand in 30 sec.

Re: Another " How much is this worth?" Thread

If the motor has good even compression I think it's worth the asking price as a truly water-ready boat. I paid $1k for my SS in gutted condition. I sold my Jupiter for over $2k water-ready and it had a much older motor and was a less-desirable closed bow (also I sold it in the fall).
