Ok so I bought some controls off of ebay and someone had already robbed the shift swich out of them but anyway I have found another set but the plug on the end is a different color from mine what I am wondering is does that really mater if all I want is the switch out of them I would take it out of those controls and put it in mine would this work?

Re: Another Hydro-Electric Drive question

It matters. There are two types of controls, Evinrude and Johnson. Within those two groups there are two kinds of switch for each, Hydro-Electric and Electramatic (Evinrude calls them both Selectric). Finally, there are different switches for 1972 with start-in-neutral only feature.

ok the ones I am looking at say Johnson Hydro-Electric drive on them but the big plug that goes into the motor is black and mine is yellow is there any way to make this switch work? is there any way to hook up the neutral wires to make the motor "think" it is in neutral? or does anyone know where I can find a switch?

As long as it is Hydro-Electric, the switch should work in another Hydro-Electric as far as shifting goes. The start in neutral feature may not be on both. Not knowing what year / model you have, you may not have it anyway.

But you can't use the whole control with the wrong color plug. Shift switch, probably.
