Ok I changed L/U lube last month just to check it out as I just bought boat. Dropped old lube and refilled, no problem. Put in water a couple more times before winter nap. Yesterday as I was changing lube again I noticed, as I was filling, oil started dripping from the opening just above the prop (exhaust?). The only thing I did different this time was lower the motor completely down while filling.
Was this oil comming out due to the position of the motor (completely vertical, causing built up oil to drain down) or do I have a problem?
I raised the motor slightly and continued filling. Seems to have stopped dripping after I done that.

Most likely it is exhaust residue nothing to worry about.
Usually it will smell gassy.

Thanks. I just found it alarming that it started dripping as I was filling L/U.
It did look and smell like clean lube I thought at the time.
Seems it would be impossible for L/U lube to come out exhaust. Hmmmmm.......
