I've got an old Sea King 50hp that's on a '62 Starcraft that I'm refurbishing. The control box is a Chrysler unit. From the limited info that I've been able to find the motor was made sometime around 1970. The really puzzling thing is that I cannot find the model number anywhere. Where should I look? The reason that I'm asking is because I'm almost finished and I need a wiring diagram so that I can wire up a new ignition switch because the former owner cut the old one off. I would like to get it in the water in the next few weeks. Thanks all.

Hi Wingnut
If you in fact have a 50hp SeaKing, it was made by Chrysler between1964 and 66. Try looking for a tag on the inside of the lower cowl pan, toward the front starboard corner. I can't really give you for sure info without the model #.

alcan

Thanks a bunch. It took awhile, but under several coats of paint there it was. I had to remove the tag so I could carefully sand off the paint and here's what it says:

Model: looks like a very faint VW followed by B19088B

Serial: 11748

At the top it says 45 OBC certified BHP @4950 RPM
the trim on the top cowl however says 50 HP.

Sometime in the past somebody painted the motor and everything else under the cowl black, including the wiring. There is a terminal panel mounted on the lower cowl beside the motor (on the left side looking from the BACK of the motor), where almost all of the wires plug into, BUT all of the wires have been painted black. I stripped back the sheathing a few inches and lo and behold I can tell the wire colors, now I just need to know what wire goes where; so a wiring diagram would be a godsend. TIA

Re: Another M. Wards question

Hi Wingnut
The numbers you posted VWB19088B are for a 45 hp motor made between 1964-66. Sorry Thats as close as my book dates this model. Wether your motor is a 50hp or 45hp I don't know. It is probably a 45hp with another bonnet or replaced decal, who knows? I doubt it will make any difference when ordering parts. If I were you I'd stick with the 45hp,because I think parts may be easier to locate. Even though they my be identical parts. As far as a wiring diagram goes, I don't have one. I suggest that you obtain an after market repair manual that covers this model Chrysler. This will give you the info needed and more. you can order one from Iboats at the bottom of the page. You may also find them at book stores or the public library.
