tilt motor seem to bind after about half movement cycle. "r" model outdrive. new wires to all point and new brushes and armiture in motor. works arter sitting about a min. or so after binding. almost sound like hydro lock. clicks when not working. and won't move when solinoid is jumped from battery. could it be valve body or limit switch. there are no switches on bell housing on this drive unit so where else would it be. is it the thing on the transome above the shift linkage with the purplr/white wire and the black wire. that thing has 2 hydraulic hoses coming out of it and the wire come out if a "tube" like thing(sorry such a bas ex. i just don't know what that thing is) any help would be great. filled res. with 20-50 motor oil. says straight 20 on side of res. but could not find. Not a big deal that it binds but i would like to fix it now becase the boat is down for a coulpe of days due to a bad manifold and then its back to work until the end of tuna season.

boat is a wellcraft 20 with gm 250 six and r model drive. just need to get one more season out of boat then it getting donated to some poor sole who desperetly wants a boat. 3,143 hours on the gauge and thats since i owned it/installed the gauge. and it still runs great but everything else need to be fixed like this trim problem

Re: another mercrusier tilt problem

ok so i changed the oil out to 10 40 still does it. checked all wire and found that the trim limit switch is on the top of the bell housing not the sides like everyone here says they are. but that was disconnected anyways. heres the next ? can you still buy this switch so i can replace it and the thing on the transome i was talking about id the gauge sending unit (traced wires back) can i buy either of there switches. my trim gauge is pegged up and from what i've read here that means the sending unit is no good?

I know someone has some info on these older units. or parts may be? \
thanks again
