I have a 1970 9.5 HP Johnson that seems like it is about to die on me altogether. Just not performing as it should anymore. I want to stay with
OMC motors, but would be open to giving Mercury/Mariner another try if I
could not find the OMC motor I prefer to have. It would have to be a short shaft motor. From 1990 to 1995,how dependable were the 20 to 25 HP Mercs
and Mariners? How about the 25 HP OMC motors(Evinrude and Johnson)that
I would prefer to have? I want to get as new a motor as I can possibly afford
and can pay cash for,...around the $900.00 to $1,300.00 mark. I would settle for a 15 HP OMC('Rude and Johnson)motor made from 1990 to 1995. How
dependable are those motors?

go OMC, parts are more readily available. they are simple to maintain, and work on. i have owned black anchors, over the years, they just do not rate to OMC, imho.
