I bought this 650 Merc and used it all summer with no problems. The last two times out it was hard to get the cable to move the throttle. It shifted with a racheting sound into gear, forward and reverse but felt like it was binding when I tried to excelerate. I checked the mercontrol and nothing is broke, the cables move fine when not attached to the motor. I tried to move the shifter on the motor by hand and it is stuck, won't move out of gear. The impeller was replaced by the previous owner last fall and is pumping fine. Is my lower unit shot ? I have read other stuck motor posts and they all happen after the impeller is replaced, not after running fine. Please help.
I drained the lower unit and there was no metal and no water. Additionally the motor will not turn off at the key ? I have gone through the manual and can't find anything to help. Any ideas?
