So my wife and I are considering getting a boat and I found a nice Wellcraft 182S Sport here in KC,MO. I have heard good things about Wellcraft in general but I am concerned by two things.
1. The boat is a 1992 so it's 20 years old
2. It's only 18 foot

I have seen newer boats (late 90's to early 2000's and up to 19.5 foot) in our budget (up to 10K) but nothing we have fallen in love with. Thinking about going to look at this one as it sounds like the guy gets it, takes care of it and it supposedly has new drive train. That said should I be worried that the engine's been replaced?

OK anyway, he's asking 8 grand, which I think is a bit high, from what I have seen anyway. Here's the ad, what do you guys think? worth a look see? If so, is $6500 an insulting offer? It's in line with what I have seen for a boat this age.

Thanks!

That looks like a very clean boat. I wonder what happened to the original motor, too?? He wants way too much to make up for putting a new engine in it. I wold offer $4500 after NOT finding rot or soft spots anywhere. If he gets offended...tell him the NADA says your boat is worth $3000

so he does have it severely over priced? I thought so too but not a very good market here in KC. If you look around this town it's mostly bass boats and aluminum jon boats or ....well very bad bowriders or very new and expensive bowriders.

The 5k - 10k range is killer around here.

Thanks for the reply!

Markets vary widely. Who knows....that might be a decent price in your neck of the woods. It just seems high for a 20 yr old bowrider, though.

It might be worth it to look out away from your area. Road trips are always fun lol.

Since the seller states in the ad; $8K OBO , all offers considered, I'd say there is room for negotiation.

The NADA price is only a ball park figure. It states right there in the finer print that boats in exceptional condition can be worth considerably more.

It's worth what you are willing to pay. The seller is remembering how much he paid for it (new?) and can't believe how much it has depreciated over the years.

Well the seller and I were unable to come to a mutually agreeable number for the Wellcraft. Which I am ok with. We ended up finding something we are both passionate about, but it will be a drive. (I am personally ok with that.) It's a 96 Mariah Shabah 180 SE (you know the obnoxious red 90's Firebird looking boat :D ) looks to be in real nice shape, 4.3 V6 price is right only down sides are no depth finder and a crappy stock am/fm cassette. It's weird but we both love it. And what it lacks I can amend. I need to inspect and water test but otherwise it's a done deal.

Any opinions on Mariah, I have heard mixed reviews from great to not so great. Anything I should look for specific to the line?

Thanks! :)
