I just bought a 13.5 Boston Whaler copy. It was cheap, bought it for the price of the motor, but as you can seen in the pictures the foam is waterlogged. What a surprise, should have known better. Anyways it seems like an easy fix, it seems like there is a layer of glass over the foam, that is all. I was going to cut out the floor, about 6 inches from the side, remove all the foam, clean replace the foam, level it out and then put a layer of matt -woven - matt to finish. How does that sound? Looks like it would be a good little fishing boat.

Thanx for your input and have a great day,

Rob.

Re: Another Project....what was I thinking

Can anybody give me advice on how best to proceed, or on how these things are built? Hope to cut out the deck this weekend and possibly start on the new one. Glassing over the new foam, is that the best way to do this repair? There is no wood within the deck, glass only.

Have a great day,

Rob.

sounds like you have the right idea, but it's going to take more layers of glass, to have the strength to walk on.

Thanx TD,

I kind of got the bug like you were mentioning earlier, keep watching Craigslist and when you spot a deal, go and get it. Actually took the rest of the day off work to get it, because I knew it would go fast. I cut out a core from the deck with a hole saw and it is only about 1/8 inch thick, so there is not alot of material there. Will burn off the resin to see what cloth they originally used. When I took a core, I accidently drilled through the hull, and then thought oh well it is an easy fix, so I drilled another 1/4 inch hole to let the water drain out. It is still probably dripping.

Have a great day,

Rob.
