Re: -another quick easy tach question-

If you have the 1984 control, there is a plug below the key for the tach. It has three holes and is rounded with a flat area. Basically it supplies 12V for light, negative ground, and the sender signal from the rectifier.

If you don't have the assembly, just remember that the signal impulse comes from the rectifier at the engine through a grey wire in the harness.

Even if you use a different tach, you can usually get the wiring harness for your control from your Evinrude dealer.

oh, They make a harness that just plugs in?
The tach has no wires just a 12+ / ground - and the P terminal...

This is what i got from ezeke.. i just route into the Gray wire coming off the rectifer?

Better to use a harness from the control. The grey wire is already in the control.

Iboats sells a Teleflex Harness IH14767 for your control.

You can also rig your wiring from inside the control without the harness.

Unless there is a problem, I don't recommend running another set of wires from the motor - you should already have what you need at your control.

Teleflex Harness IH14767

42$ dollars.. thats insanity!
Cant i just splice into the sending wire? and run my pos+ to my master power? and run my ground to a ground? Buying that harness seems like the ultra lazy way of doing it.

Re: -another quick easy tach question-

Ok guys, im revamping this thread because i had some issues during installation of this tach, this is what i did exactly so if i did something wrong let me know..

the wires from the rectifier go to that black strip that is labled 1-2-3-4-5 the back strip has a gray. plain gray wire on it. i simple ran a wire from that terminal and ran it to the "P" terminal on my tach. and hooked the tack up to the battery using aligators.. i started the motor and made sure the tach was on 6 pulse..

the tach did nothing..
i played with it from 2-6 pulse and it made the tach go from 0 to max. with no tach reading.

bad tach? or bad hookup???

It says its for a 12 pole alt. Perhaps this is the problemo??????????????????

Re: -another quick easy tach question-

Is your charging system working OK? Might check that before condeming the Tach.....
