Another trim/tilt Question

I changed out a 3 wire to a 2 wire trim on my 1978 85 go Johnson. I have all the relays in place and the unit worked great last year. Go to start up the motor after a long winter and the tilt goes up but not down. The motor is working though. When I release the relief screw then the motor tilts down?
Any ideas?

Re: Another trim/tilt Question

Check out your up-down switch. Then check the relays. Spray some electronic cleaner into your switch.

Re: Another trim/tilt Question

the motor spins in both directions. the system goes up and stays up. the system will lower from gravity if the manual release is open.
but the system will not go down even though the motor is spinning?

lifting and holding eliminates the rams.
motor spinning in both directions eliminates motor and wiring.
only thing left is the pump (aka valve body).
Must be one of those calco pumps.

How hard is it to replace a pump on something like that. Could it be a fluid issue?
