another trim /tilt ?

First thanks for past information, but my question now is , that I've been watching a couple of trim units on e-bay, but after reading a couple of post below about how the tilt rams won't hold under load, I'm wondering would smart tabs be a better option for my boat? It has a 90 model 50 hp? Neither of these units have a trim ram only the tilt ram from what I can see in the pictures. I'm getting 28-30 mph which some say is about as good as the 50's gonna get, but I've still got a lot of the transom of the boat in the water, was thinking that a little tilt after getting on plane would help get more of the boat on top. Now it sounds like the units would just be a waste of money. Smart Tabs or just build my own cmc type unit, I'm a steel fabricator by trade so rounding up the pump and rams would be the hardest part for me. Whatda ya'll think?
